Malang, February 2026 – SMP Islam Al Azhar 56 Malang successfully carried out its International Immersion Program from 8 February to 16 February 2026, visiting Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. The program was designed to expose students to the international world as global citizens while providing them with authentic learning experiences in a real English-speaking environment.
The journey began in Singapore, where students explored iconic landmarks such as the Merlion Park and the Marina Bay Sands area. Through direct observation and interaction with people from diverse backgrounds, students experienced firsthand how a modern, multicultural country operates. The visit encouraged them to practice English in real-life situations and broaden their global perspectives.

The program then continued to Malaysia, where the students visited Islamic International School Malaysia. During their time there, participants engaged in collaborative classroom activities, cultural exchanges, and discussions with students from 30 different countries who study at IISM. This meaningful interaction strengthened their confidence in speaking English and enhanced their cross-cultural understanding.
In addition, the students had the opportunity to visit International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). During the campus visit, students were introduced to the university’s academic environment, facilities, and international community. The visit inspired them to set higher educational goals and envision their future studies in an international institution.
The Malaysia trip also included an educational visit to Petrosains, The Discovery Centre located at the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. At Petrosains, students experienced hands-on science exhibitions and interactive learning zones that introduced them to innovation, technology, and the energy industry. This educational visit enriched their knowledge of science in a global context while allowing them to practice English through guided explanations and activities.

The final destination was Thailand, where the group visited Bumrungsuka Islamic School. The students were warmly welcomed and took part in joint activities, including school tours, cultural presentations, and a closing ceremony. The visit highlighted the spirit of friendship and cooperation among Islamic schools across Southeast Asia.
Throughout the nine-day program, students demonstrated enthusiasm, adaptability, and strong teamwork. Teachers reported significant improvement in students’ communication skills, particularly in English, as they were immersed in an authentic international environment. Beyond academic growth, the program also nurtured independence, leadership, and global awareness.

The Immersion Program concluded successfully with happy and motivated students returning to Malang. SMP Islam Al Azhar 56 Malang hopes that this international exposure will inspire students to continue developing themselves as confident global citizens ready to contribute positively to the world.
