English Immersion Program is one of an annual programs in SMP Islam Al Azhar 56 Malang. In this year, this program was held on 6th-14th of April, 2025 to Malaysia and Singapore. Our school has connection and collaboration with International Islamic School Malaysia (IISM). IISM which has multi national students all over the world such as Canada, Maroko, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, China, and many other countries in the world. So that the purpose of this program is to expose the students to English environment and make them used to using English as their daily conversation both inside and outside of the class, therefore they stayed and sat in at International Islamic School Malaysia for about a week.
The agenda of English Immersion Program 2025 was various. Students were divided into 2 up to 3 students to each classes started from secondary 7-9. Some of our students from secondary 8 joined secondary 9 in IISM. They followed the flow of the school program started from 08.30am to 4.15 pm Malaysia.
On Day 8, we went to International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) to get English Lesson from Annas, an International Ph.D. student of IIUM from Morocco. It was fun in IIUM because we also had a chance to perform Jum’at prayer at IIUM Mosque. After visiting IIUM, we went to Johor for about 5 hours by bus and stayed there for a night before crossing to Singapore for city tour and then went back to Indonesia.
There are some lessons that we can take from this English Immersion Program, namely, how the people can obey and discipline in any aspects especially at the school and generally in the city area, how the environment of English can significantly improve the students’ English speaking skill, and how the trip teaches us on how to think globally.
